We’re only into the first week of the New Year and already I am being bombarded with too much to do: dedecorating the house, work, bills, dealing with issues, along with that annual annoying virus that makes everyone cough. Yesterday, I said to my girlfriend “Is something in the air?” and I didn’t mean the flu.
Daily life is a challenge. Some days more than others. Some of us have health issues. Some have finance issues. Some, relationship problems. It’s always something. Usually more than one something.
So how do we maintain our composure, our peace and our sense of stability in these hectic and trying days?
My only recourse is to spend time in spiritual pursuits. Time alone in prayer, meditation, reading the Bible and other spiritual materials, becomes more critical the more hectic my schedule becomes. Time taking care of my body and eating right. My body is a temple and if I don’t treat it as such, it will not be able to withstand the stress of everyday living.
So how was your first week of the New Year? Are you feeling stressed already? If so, take a time-out. Get thee to a quiet place and calm your mind and your body. I have a feeling it’s not going to get any better, but remember the words of the Apostle Paul “Do not be anxious about anything, but in all things with prayer and supplication let your requests be made known to the Lord, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Phil 4:6-7)
