Never Quit!

Feel like giving up? Tired of the battle? Think you have it rough? Well, how would you like to live life without limbs?

While down in Jacksonville, Florida this past week, I happened to be on the beach where the Never Quit Beach Challenge was taking place. Thousands of competitors wearing shirts with the motto “Never Quit” filled the beach. There were swimmers, surfers, and runners. The marines wore shirts that said “Pain is weakness leaving the body”. Young girls 5 – 6 yrs old were doing chin presses on the bar. Parachute jumpers decorated the sky. It was quite a sight to behold.

Then I heard the opening prayer by a man named Nick Vujicic. He praised my lord and savior, Jesus Christ, right there in public amidst thousands of people. Who is this guy? I asked, tears welling up in my eyes.

Thanks to the Internet and Google, I found out. Nick Vujicic is an australian born in 1982 in Brisbane, Australia – with no arms or legs. Today he is a college graduate with two degrees, an author, a CEO, and a motivational speaker. He was also a participant in the three part race.

Now how’s that for faith and inspiration? Check out the website for more info. The whole event certainly inspired me. So next time you think you’re having a hard time, think of Nick Vujicic and remember his motto and mine – Never give up!

Until next time, keep the faith and keep looking up!

Divine Assistance at Home Depot

Many of us are afraid to tackle new things, aren’t we? Like home repairs for instance or traveling to new places. Well, here’s a story that is sure to encourage you. Divine assistance came to me on a recent visit to my local Home Depot.

Now, we all know that these mega stores can be a bit intimidating – so many aisles, so many items to choose from, and it’s even more so when you’re unfamiliar with the stuff you’re looking for.

There I was at Home Depot in the plumbing aisle. My kitchen faucet has been drip, drip, dripping for a few months now and I decided to attempt the repair myself. I found the installation instructions detailing all the parts and identified what needs to be replaced – I think.

As I stood there searching for the Delta springs, a gentleman comes up next to me perusing the same area as I.

“I’m looking for Delta” he says.

“So am I,” I replied. We start chatting about repairing faucets and I show him the instructions detailing the parts I was looking for. Turns out, he was looking for the exact same parts! Also turns out he had done 35+ faucet repairs and was so helpful, he even walked me over to the tool section and picked out the exact kind of allen wrenches I needed for the job.

After a careful explanation about the whole process, and, bless the man for his patience, answering all my questions, we parted ways. At the checkout counter, guess who was in front of me? Yep, same guy. “Good luck with that faucet” he said.

What are the chances of meeting someone on a holiday weekend, in the many aisles, looking for the exact same part and so willing to share their knowledge? Now, if that wasn’t a divine appointment, I don’t know what is. I took it as a blessing from the Lord giving me all the direction I needed to perform this job and sent up a prayer of thanksgiving right then and there.

I wanted to share this little vignette with my readers. God cares about everything we care about, even faucet repairs. He wants to help us in life and it doesn’t matter whether it’s a parking space, a bill that needs to be paid, or even a unidentified health issue. He is there for us. Hope this story encourages you next time you are facing an unknown task or issue. Trust God and He will take good care of you!

Until next time, keep the faith and keep looking up!

Loud and Clear

If you’re a parent, you know how frustrating it is when your kids don’t listen, right? You keep repeating yourself and it seems no one is paying any attention.

Sometimes I think my Heavenly Father must feel the same way about me.

Here’s a curious thing that happened over the weekend and you tell me what you think. First, I have to give you a little background. Over the years, I have dated several men who have been good dancers. The dancing was great, but sadly, none of the relationships worked out and I have suffered great emotional pain as a result.

So there’s this guy that I have been dancing with on occasion lately who is a really good dancer. I feel like I am in heaven when I am dancing with him. Got the picture? We danced to this one song recently, and the moment made a lasting impression.

Well, the same song came on the radio over the weekend, and I started dancing around my condo dreamily. All of the sudden, the building smoke alarm system goes off chirp chirp chirping and snaps me right out of my revelry.

I knew what it meant immediately.”Stop thinking about that guy. You know where it will lead if you go down that path again. Danger, danger.” The message was LOUD and CLEAR. I have to admit I was a bit disappointed, but I knew that the message was for my own protection and well-being.

Now you might laugh and say it was just a coincidence, but I know the Lord. And there are no coincidences with Him. If you could have been there and heard that alarm go off, it would have scared you smack into obedience too.

Ever had something like this happen to you? What was the message and did you listen or ignore it and what happened then? God is still speaking to us today and He will use any method to get our attention. The question is will we listen and obey, or not?

Until next time, keep looking up!
