Watch What Shows Up

Do you believe in coincidence? Two things happening at the same time purely by chance?

There have been several coincidences recently in my life and although my mom disagrees, I believe coincidences are divine appointments to connect us with our destiny. As I explain in my book, “The Power of Faith”, whether we choose to accept it or not, we are all on a spiritual journey. Whatever our belief system, we all need learn to have faith in ourselves, in others and ultimately, faith in Almighty God. He is orchestrating situations for our benefit, but we must open our spiritual eyes to “see” His hand at work.

When we start living in sync with God’s guidelines, things start falling into place, don’t they? I eat right, I lose weight and have more energy. I tithe, my debts and bills get paid off. I slow down and spend more time with God in prayer and meditation, and I gain clarity about what is truly important in life. It’s all about our attitudes towards things of this world. What is my attitude about food? Money? Busyness? Material possessions? Relationships?

One thing I’ve been working on is eliminating the negative things in my life so I can have more peace. It’s kind of like cleaning house in a way: decluttering the junk and only keeping what is valuable, beautiful and adds to my quality of life. I refuse to hold on to anything that doesn’t serve me or help me to move forward in life. It could be a relationship, a habit, a thought pattern, a job, or some material possession.

What I’ve noticed is that when I let go of something that is not bearing fruit, life offers up something so much better. When I am courageous and open to possibilities, God shows up in amazing ways. I’ve learned that God cannot be put in a box. He is so creative and He definitely thinks outside the box.

So what is it that you are holding on to today? What is holding you back from moving forward in your life? Is it your job? A relationship? Negative people? Yes, this is a process for sure, but, the steps to faith are not difficult to do. As I share in my book, the trials in life can be used as stepping stones to a better tomorrow.

Whatever you’re facing today, know that God can use it for your good and His glory. Let go of what is not fruitful, and watch what shows up in your life! Until next time, keep looking up!

You’ve Got What It Takes!

Totally equipped and fully loaded. My new car came just like this. Everything I could possibly need in a vehicle and more. The windshield wipers turn on when they detect rain. The lights go on when it gets dark. The side mirrors light up and beep when a car is in my blind side. Navigation system to get me to my destination.

I ask you, what more could one ask for? My car is equipped with absolutely everything I needed and more and guess what?  He’s given US everything WE need to operate on this journey to faith as well.

We, too, are totally equipped and fully loaded. Yup. We have the full armor of God which includes the shield of faith, the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the sword of the spirit, the helmet of salvation, and the shoes of peace (Ephesians 6).

God promises to wipe away every tear that falls. He gives us light for our blind spots and a
Navigation system to direct our path, otherwise known as the Word of God.

We’ve got the oil of the Holy Spirit to fill our tanks up and smooth the ride when we feel like we’re running on empty and the road ahead is bumpy. So when life zaps the oomph out of you, spend a few moments in quiet prayer and meditation. Be still and listen. Know that He is Lord. No matter what others say to or about you, remember that Jesus loves YOU and you’ve got what it takes!

And the Mazda goes ZOOM ZOOM!

Visit my Mazda dealership in Lutherville and tell Eddie I said hello. And remember, always keep looking up!

What Are You Waiting For?

Need a car? A job? A house or a spouse? Most of us spend a lot of time waiting for something, true?Waiting can be a test of our patience, but I think it has gotten a bad rap. As I share in my book, “The Power of Faith”, waiting on God is a key ingredient to receiving God’s best. Don’t know about you, but that’s what I’m holding out for.

Many of you know my God/car story #1; how, as a single parent, I waited for so many years for a new car and then, quite unexpectedly, my aunt offered to buy me one and it was the car of my dreams PLUS.

Well, now it’s time to share God/car story #2.

My youngest has been urging me to buy a new car for several years now.
“I’m not ready yet,” was my usual answer. This past January, however, I decided to start looking, just to see what was out there and what I liked. On a cold and blustery winter day, I boarded the light rail and headed downtown to the car show. To keep this short, I’ll spare you the details, for now, but I decided on three models I thought I was interested in.

Spring came and I decided to test drive the vehicles on the weekends. It was a fun but time-consuming experience. The salesmen were mostly nice except for the guy who thought I didn’t know what VW stood for 😦 But anyway. I had it down to two choices and was planning on waiting till next year to actually purchase.

But God. Don’t you love it when God steps in? I sure do. Two Saturdays ago, I was praying about how much to spend for the car and a figure came to mind. The plan for the day was to visit two other dealerships, and check out some models I had not originally considered.

As I sat at the salesman’s desk, the topic of my book came up.
“What is your book about?” he asked. Reaching into my purse, I pulled out a postcard with the book information and gave it to him. Eddie paused long and hard gazing at the postcard. He put it down on his desk and rolled up the sleeve on his shirt. Tattooed on his left forearm was one word.

FAITH.

Now I ask you – what are the chances of that? So then, he proceeds to present the pricing to me.
“What do you think?” he asked.
“Well, it’s late and I haven’t had lunch. I need to go home and think about it,” I replied.
Knowing I was about to walk out, he calls the manager over. Now, you know how that works, don’t you?

The manager looks me in the eye and says “If you buy this car today, I’ll give it to you for $X”.
Guess what? $X was the exact amount God had given me in prayer earlier that morning. I knew God was stepping in and telling me it was time to buy a car.

So, dear one, what is it that you have been waiting for? What has God been telling you? Stay in faith, keep in prayer, and listen for his answer. God is faithful and he is also very clear. Psalm 37:4 says “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

Until next time, keep looking up!

This is How It Feels To Be Free

How do you feel about your freedom this fourth of July? I am ecstatic! This past Monday I spoke at my church’s Celebrate Recovery gathering. As I shared my story and  spoke about all the things I have been set free from over the years, I felt the familiar lump in my throat and tear in my eye. I have so much to be grateful for this holiday and so do you!

It was on July 4, 1776 that our founding fathers gathered to sign the declaration of  independence to free themselves and many others from British rule. We owe them a great debt of gratitude for the price they paid to loose themselves from bondage under England and to establish this great country.

As a woman who has traveled over much of the world and seen how others live, I appreciate the freedom and privileges I enjoy here in this country. I am in awe of the fact that by the grace and mercy of God, as a single parent I have achieved the life of my dreams and both my sons are independent, self-supporting godly men. Now that is something to celebrate!

But it’s also about how I feel about being free. Freedom is about choice. Freedom of choice. I can choose how and where to worship – freedom of worship. I can choose to write these blog posts – freedom of speech. I can choose to protect myself – freedom to bear arms. I can choose what to commit to and what to run from. Freedom brings both privileges and responsibilities.

Living and feeling free requires me to take action. The founding fathers had a cause they believed in and were committed to and they took action. I must take action to free myself from emotional and spiritual bondage and to make my dreams a reality.  Living the life we dream of doesn’t happen on it’s own, right?

Do you feel free? Are you free? Are you living the life of your dreams? What or who are you committed to? What actions are you taking to see your dreams fulfilled?

Happy birthday, America and may God bless America always! Until next time, keep looking up!
